They promote a positive, nurturing, developmentally appropriate, healthy and safe environment to meet the needs of children.<\/p>\n<h3>Key Objectives<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To perform duties in accordance with the mission statement and core values of AFCS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Duties will include but not be limited to:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Provides a welcoming and nurturing environment by displaying affection, acceptance and support of each child;guides and assists children in planned activities, and models appropriate behaviours.<\/li>\n<li>Develops and implements Programming plans with age\/stage appropriate activities, games and crafts thatinterest the children.<\/li>\n<li>Plays and engages with the children.<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to work closely with other team members<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates creativity and innovation in the time spent with the children; is self- motivated and enthusiasticin carrying out the duties<\/li>\n<li>Implements a positive model\/approach with Behaviour Guidance<\/li>\n<li>Abides by the Shelter code of conduct and Andrew Fleck Child Care Services policies.<\/li>\n<li>Maintains a safe and quality care environment for the children<\/li>\n<li>Organizes and participates in appropriate outings for the children<\/li>\n<li>Attends to global needs of children<\/li>\n<li>Ensures provision of all required items for the day such as diapers, bottles, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Communication<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Regularly communicates with designated shelter staff at respective site for information, resources and support<\/li>\n<li>Displays professionalism<\/li>\n<li>Follows instructions<\/li>\n<li>Provides STCC evaluation form for mothers to complete and return to STCC office<\/li>\n<li>Provides the resident mothers with feedback on the day<\/li>\n<li>Provides feedback on successes and challenges to the STCC office<\/li>\n<li>Completes and faxes the stats report and time sheet to the STCC office when required<\/li>\n<li>Other tasks as needed to ensure a clean and safe, quality care environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Qualification<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Accumulation of three (3) to (6) months experience caring for children<\/li>\n<li>Current Standard First Aid and Infant CPR certification<\/li>\n<li>Clear Police Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) completed in the last 6 months<\/li>\n<li>Sensitivity and respect for individual and cultural differences<\/li>\n<li>Proven ability to work closely with other team members<\/li>\n<li>Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job<\/li>\n<li>Bending, lifting, walking, stooping\/ lifting up to 20 lbs.<\/li>\n<li>Strong interpersonal skills and understanding of confidentiality in women\u2019s shelters<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written)<\/li>\n<li>Understands the impact on children who are exposed to and\/or have witnessed violence<\/li>\n<li>Bilingualism an asset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"print-pdf-button\" href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/shelter-worker-jd.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Print PDF<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary The Shelter Worker provides early learning and child care on site for mothers residing at Women\u2019s shelters in the Ottawa Area.
